Earning an honourable mention, Spreading Our Roots is the culmination of community, legacy, and care. The design speaks to important moments across time — respecting the impact of the D.M. Rutherford Conservatory, breaking down the walls of confinement in the present, and spreading our roots into the future.

Through participatory design, the garden creates an experience for all, touching on accessibility, commemoration, emotional connection, and the open opportunity to make the space your own. The garden juxtaposes old ideas with new, paying homage to the Ontario Agricultural College (OAC) that set the foundation, while creating a space to build new, meaningful memories.
